If you study the explanation in the Series 2 Timeline and look at the sequences, you can sort of see the logic in the system.

And for added information:

Series 1 chassis data:

Will add/amend more sequences when data is available.

Here's where the numbers are located on the vehicle, apart from the plate in the cab....

in diagram form...

highlighting the suffix letter

Gearbox number...

Axle number...

This is on the rear axle and the 3rd digit is not clear. To match the chassis number (1959 SWB Home market RHD it should be a "6"). What this tells us is that the axle is more than likely to be the original one fitted...
The numbers are never much clearer than this and with paint/rust can be hard to fully decipher.

Alan.
I think only the home market 2.6 1 tons were on an A suffix, all the others are G so far as I know, certainly the few low export vehicles I know of are on G suffixes. Are you going to add the build figures to your table? The 2.25 export models were not built, nor are there any CKD figures. I have not found a vehicle built on a VIN either.

1 ton build figures are there in my post!
Your book states suffix A? Thats odd, my parts book says they all started suffix G even though mine is an A. I am pretty sure all the export ones were on a G as I think home market production started first.

Series 3 1 ton build figures are here -

Series III
266 - 2.6 Home Market RHD 238 built
267 - Export RHD 64 built
268 - Export LHD 148 built
269 - CKD RHD
270 - CKD LHD
Total produced 450 (CKD figures not known)
